Visual Flight Rules Operations Policy in VATSIM Mainland China


A.  General

  • Aircraft within any Approach Control Area and Tower Control Area shall obtain clearance from Approach Control and Tower Control before conducting Visual Flight Rules (VFR) operations.
  • VFR aircraft shall not takeoff from a towered airport until a clearance described above is obtained.
  • VFR Aircraft shall maintain a certain vertical and horizontal distances from the clouds.
  • When operating under VFR, pilots are responsible for maintaining correct separations between aircrafts as well as the safe altitude of the aircraft from ground obstacles.
  • Air traffic control units reserve the right to terminate VFR operations. Normally due to traffic volume in the airspace.
  • IFR traffic has priority over VFR traffic.

 

B.  VFR Clearance

What to say when requesting a VFR clearance,

Include the following information when requesting a VFR clearance,

  • Aircraft type
  • Requested altitude
  • Intention (Include traffic pattern, direction of flight or when able the destination airport)

What to expect from air traffic control

VFR approved by air traffic control,

  • Clearance to operate in (airspace or traffic pattern)
  • Cleared altitude
  • Squawk code

VFR not approved by air traffic control

  • Expect reason for not approving VFR

Weather Minima and Requirements

  • Horizontal distance between aircraft and clouds shall not be less than 1500M (4900FT).
  • Vertical distance between aircraft and clouds shall not be less than 300M (900FT)
  • Flights operating 3000M (9800FT) or above, visibility shall not be less than 8km (5sm).
  • Flights operating below 3000M (9800FT), visibility shall not be less than 5km (3sm).

Speed Control

Maximum of 450km/h (240kts) indicated air speed (IAS) below 3000M (exclusive) (9800FT), unless otherwise instructed by air traffic control.

Separations

The separation between aircraft operating on the same track and at same altitude shall not be less than:

  • 2000m when aircraft cruising indicated airspeeds are less than 250km/h (135kts) ; or
  • 5000m when aircraft cruising indicated airspeeds are 250km/h or above.

 

C.  Local Traffic Circuit Operations

General

  • An aerodrome traffic circuit is normally left-hand pattern. It may, however, be a right-hand traffic circuit if it is constrained by the conditions of terrain or city location or if it is to avoid crossing with the traffic circuit of adjacent aerodrome.
  • An aircraft on traffic circuit is forbidden to overtake another aircraft of the same type.

Separations in circuit

  • Lateral separation of 1500M (4900FT/0.8nm) between aircrafts in the same circuit.
  • Do not overtake traffic in the same circuit unless approved by air traffic control. When overtaking, execute from the outer-side of the circuit before base-turn, a minimum lateral separation of 200M (660FT/0.1nm) shall be obtained.
  • Departing VFR aircrafts shall not enter the runway for takeoff unless the final-leg of the traffic circuit is clear and obtain clearance from air traffic control.
  • Succeeding aircraft shall maintain the specified safety separation from the proceeding aircraft during take-off or landing.
